In competition at ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2023

We are delighted to share that 'silencio gris' ('grey silence') has been selected as part of the International Competition 'ZEBRINO Award for the Best Poetry Film for Children and Youth' at the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival.

We made film towards the end of the poetry fellowship we received last year to give creative poetry workshops at the orphanage for girls, Our Little Roses in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

One of the key elements in the film is the fish which features on the poster. I was wondering what to create to accompany my pirate halloween costume when I found a dried leaf from one of the palm trees in the courtyard and with help from the girls it became a fish!

In the following days the fish visited classes at Holy Family Bilingual School as part of our story-telling and art activities and then it became star of our poetry film! We also ran a poetry club for the girls and the poem written by Gissel Orellana was inspired during a 'poetry walk' around the grounds.

The ZEBRA festival takes place from the 12th to the 15th October 2023 at Haus für Poesie and Kino in der Kulturbrauerei in Berlin.
